Animation

Showreel

'Down By the Stream'
Lip sync project responding to an existing piece of film dialogue (originally from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
I love the performance aspect of animation, so I had a lot of fun getting into character for each of these frogs. This is just a short clip but it gives me a taste of how I might construct a scene for a longer series of cartoons.

'The Early Bird'
Stop-motion scene based on my Grandma and her flat.

There's a warmth about stop-motion animation that I have always adored. The hand-made sets and puppets give a sense of real texture that no other form of animation can. Unlike my previous stop-motion films, for this project I used fabrics and collaborated with Emily Smith, an Interior Design student, on the set.

'The Last Straw'
My first audio animation project working with TVPaint.

A miserable day in the life of scarecrow rooted to the spot. Often my favourite animated stories will take something typically inanimate and bring it to life. I like to find the unlikely characters whose perspectives on daily life may be overlooked.

'Sid'
A two-minute stop-motion short from when I was 17 and a Photography student at sixth form college.
At the time I could only realise a brief part of Sid's story, and I went on to finish the escape tale as a picture book (see Illustration page).

'Window Seat'
The second two-minute short from the same period when I was 17 and working on 'Sid'.

A day in the life of a small café and the street outside the window. I wanted to set up a singular view and have the events and time of day changing, much like the experience of people-watching at any coffee shop.

'Light My Fire'
A collage experiment completed in a single afternoon at university.

This was an important lesson in successful collaboration and what is possible in a very short space of time. Kirstie, Leanna and I worked equally to get this finished quickly, and the spontaneous approach brought an extra spark of energy.

'Gorilla in Love'
Walk cycle project, integrated into a moving background.

I adore the character animation in Disney classics like The Jungle Book. It was a real joy to attempt something similar with this test, and I look forward to making something more expansive next time.
